Undressing Fear. Addressing Life.

Undressing Fear. Addressing Life.

Contributor: Brittany Bellgam

Fear reminds me of a pain in my neck that's hard to pinpoint exactly where it started. Eventually, I adjusted to the pain and it became a part of my identity. I wore fear like a second layer of skin.

Often times we walk through life reacting to life based on the fears we've adopted as truths. We tell ourselves, "I'll never amount to anything more than I am now," "I can't do..."

This happens to all of us from time to time.

In order to overcome fear, it is important to acknowledge the progress you've already made. Having tangible evidence of overcoming fear can trigger something in your mind (or at least it did for me) to keep on going and work through it.

When I look at this picture I posted for a Facebook fashion challenge, I am reminded of a small victory I had with fear.

I was excited to post this picture for the challenge because it was a chance to physically showcase me stepping out of my comfort zone.  I was taking a risk with my fashion that I don't often display on social media but thanks to Kierra Godfrey (Freelance Makeup Artist for MAC Cosmetics), who tagged me in the challenge and suggested I do it, I stepped out in a major way.

It felt invigorating. To some it was just a photo that was outside of my norm of conservative wear photos. To others, it may have meant something else. To me, it was a small victory in jumping out of the box I thought I needed to stay in to make others and myself feel comfortable.

To my fellow beauties, I say to you, don't ask permission, don't ask forgiveness. Don't ask anything. Do something that scares you enough to address life and undress those fears.
